Junior Consultant

Description:

ITS Global is a public policy consultancy business specializing in international trade, environment and economic development.

Examples of current significant projects include:

  • analyzing the implications of free trade agreements with China and Korea for private and public sector clients;
  • agribusiness and industry analysis for private sector and public sector clients,
  • development of communications strategies for forestry companies; and
  • executing development projects in research and capacity building related to international trade for international organizations.

We are a small consultancy with 11 staff in Melbourne at our Collins Street office, a principal consultant in Canberra, and a number of associate consultants in Australia and overseas.

You will be expected to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously. You will be involved from proposal preparation and initial conceptualization through to delivery and implementation. You will be expected to be client-focused and enthusiastic about a free-market approach to working with selected clients. Your communication skills will ensure that you are able to communicate effectively in a spoken and written way with peers, mentors and clients and your written reports will be of a professional standard.

You should have strong research skills, an ability to keep a big picture perspective while working on finer details, with highly advanced IT, organizational and project management skills. Travel experience in Asia and/or the US will be an advantage.

You must be a recent graduate with tertiary qualifications in business, economics, commerce, science or environmental science (preferably with honours) and ideally have 12 months professional experience. Exposure to working with large corporate enterprises, or government would be an advantage. Asian language skills are also desirable.

Senior Policy Consultant

  • international trade policy and law, such as WTO obligations and the implications of free trade agreements;
  • economic development issues related to international trade and the environment; and
  • environmental issues, particularly those concerned with forestry, agriculture and climate change.

Scope of the position

We are seeking a Senior Policy Consultant who will manage major client projects and provide assistance to the team of consultants on a range of projects.

The Senior Policy Consultant will design, manage and collaborate on consultancy projects as a senior member of the consultancy team, develop project plans and tender responses and liaise with key clients. You will be expected to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously.

You will have strong research and analytical skills, excellent report writing skills, good relationship management skills, an ability to promote the consultancy business, an ability to keep a big-picture perspective while working on finer details, and highly advanced IT, organizational and project management skills. We would also welcome applications from individuals with research experience and an interest in acquiring consulting skills.

International and interstate travel may be required for some projects since our clients are businesses, governments and industry associations nationwide and overseas.

Key responsibilities of the position are to:

  1. Provide lead research and analysis on major consultancy projects in agribusiness, economic policy and general economic and environmental research;
  2. Maintain excellent client relationships and build ongoing business with those clients;
  3. Provide specialized research for other consultants on a range of projects;
  4. Provide specialized economic policy advice to the Managing Director as requested;
  5. Manage the publishing of high quality reports and other materials;
  6. Provide guidance and lead teams in the preparation of project proposals and responses to tenders, including project design, preparing work plans, assigning tasks and liaising with clients on their requirements;
  7. Lead in the development of project design;
  8. Work with other senior managers and the Managing Director to identify new consulting business for ITS Global;
  9. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

The applicants should:

  • Hold a degree in economics or other relevant discipline at honours or post-graduate level and have at least five years experience in corporate, government, or other policy positions;
  • Have high-level presentation and writing skills;
  • Have good interpersonal and client relations skills;
  • Have a high level of flexibility;
  • Foreign language skills (would be desirable);
  • Overseas experience (would be desirable).

Remuneration is negotiable depending on the level of experience. We value each individual’s growth and will provide an allowance for ongoing education and training for the successful applicant.

Intern

Description:

  • Experience working with Australia’s foremost international trade consultancy

    ITS Global is looking for an Intern to work over the summer in major areas covered by its business — international trade; economic development; and environmental policy analysis.

    We are a small consultancy with 11 staff in Melbourne at the Collins Street office, a principal consultant in Canberra and a number of associate consultants in Australia and overseas.

    The Intern will work with senior consultants on major projects. Examples of current significant projects are:

    • analyzing the implications of free trade agreements with China and Korea for private and public sector clients;
    • agribusiness and industry analysis for private sector clients;
    • development of communications strategies for forestry companies; and
    • executing projects for research and capacity building on international trade for international organizations.

    You will be client-focused and enthusiastic about free market approaches in public policy when working with clients. Your communication skills will ensure that you are an effective communicator, both orally and in writing, with peers, mentors and clients.

    You must be working towards tertiary qualifications in business, economics, commerce, science or environmental science, preferably with at least two years at the honours level.
